Colleton County, SC – Colleton County School District has released its 2025–2026 Assessment Data Snapshot, highlighting key improvements across elementary literacy, middle school science, high school end-of-course exams, and career readiness certifications.
The comprehensive dataset showcases strong momentum in several key academic areas:
Elementary Literacy Growth: District-wide fourth-grade ELA proficiency rose to 49.7% (up from 42.9% in 24–25). Gains were driven by strong performances at elementary schools including Bells (60.0%), Northside (50.6%), and Hendersonville (50.0%). Bells Elementary also saw fourth-grade math proficiency surge from 26.7% to 40.0%.
Middle School Science: Grade 6 Science proficiency climbed to 32.9%, up from 27.7% in the previous school year.
High School End-of-Course Improvements: High school students achieved notable gains in mastery of core subjects. Biology 1 students scoring a 'C' or better jumped to 28.7% (up from 16.3%), English 2 increased to 52.9% (up from 49.2%), and U.S. History rose to 23.6% (up from 17.0%).
Career Readiness Advancement: The percentage of district students earning an SC Career Readiness Credential grew to 54.5%, reflecting a 4.3 percentage point increase year-over-year.
Target Areas: Upper elementary and middle school mathematics remain a primary focus for targeted instructional support and resource allocation heading into the new academic year.
These results demonstrate clear progress in critical areas like early literacy, high school science, and workforce readiness. While we celebrate these gains, the data also provides a clear roadmap where our educators will focus resources and instruction—particularly in K–8 mathematics.
